Word of the Year: Selfie

By now, you've probably heard.

The Oxford English dictionary's 2013 word of the year is "Selfie."

The word was chosen for good reason. Frequency of the word in the English language increased by 17,000% during the past 12 months. More than 53 million of these pictures have been tagged #selfie on the photo-sharing site Instagram. And all cell phones now come with cameras specially designed for the arm's length selfie shot.

So what is the message behind an obsession with selfies?
The answer is quite simple: Me.

IsraeLinks: A Reflection

IsraeLinks is an educational-based trip where participants are immersed in an engaging exploration of Judaism. Here are one participant's reflections on her experience.

People travel for different reasons. Some travel to find themselves, others to escape their realities. I flew to Israel to learn more about my Jewish heritage, my ancestors' land, and to better situate myself vis-à-vis Judaism and its place in my life.

There, I was greeted with the smell of fresh falafels; I was overwhelmed with how religious people appear; and I was surprised by how kind the people of Israel are.
